Brighton and Hove Cycling UK group are pleased to announce that we aim to resume a limited organised rides programme.  We have waited, like other cycling groups, to see if the situation changes and allows us to organise rides that are more in keeping with our aim of social rides but after 6 months, the committee has decided to

Due to COVID-19 restrictions we have needed to make some changes to our rides in order to comply with government instructions and Cycling UK recommendations in order that we are covered by our insurance. Cycling UK has published advice in these links for cycling groups restarting rides.

As of 14th September, 6 participants is the maximum number ( including the leader ) allowed on each ride.  Therefore, to comply there are some activities that need to be completed.

All participants, and ride leaders must undergo a self-assessment for any COVID-19 symptoms. No-one should leave home to participate in sport or officiate if they, or someone they live with, has any of the following:

  • A high temperature

  • A new, continuous cough

  • A loss of, or change to, their sense of smell or taste.

Should an individual have demonstrated any such symptoms, they must follow NHS and PHE guidance on self-isolation.

  • Each rider must pre-book attendance via a WhatsApp message to the ride leader and received confirmation on acceptance of inclusion on the ride. If you have not booked a ride you can not participate.

  • Each rider must provide complete and forward to the Covid-19 officer their name and emergency contact name details.  Please e-mail to brightonandhovecyclinguk@gmail.com

  • Each rider must scan the rider leaders QR code with a suitable reader from the Apple or Google play store, and complete the registration details in order.

  • All riders must agree to their contact details being passed to the NHS Track and Trace Team if requested.  Any riders who gets a Positive C-19 test within 7 days of being on a ride must inform the Brighton and Hove C-19 officer as soon as possible and no later than 24 hours after receiving their positive test.

  • Whilst on a ride, maintain social distancing of 2 meters whilst on and off the bike. This means that it will be not be possible to ride two abreast and the rule applies even when fixing punctures or when stopped at junctions.

  • Riders need to self-sufficient and have their own tools and spare tubes.  If you need to help then please sanitise your hands and wear a mask to prevent accidental touching of the mouth or nose.

  • Riders are requested to bring Masks and a small hand sanitiser ( all very cheaply available from Aldi in Portslade )

  • Café stops may be busy and it may not be possible to stop. Please ensure to bring enough food, snacks and drinks for the ride and do not share between the group.

  • Participants must practice good respiratory hygiene whilst cycling, ( ie coughing and sneezing into a tissue or crook of an elbow)

  • Ride meet points must be outside where social distancing can be maintained.
